Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Accountant role based in the National Capital District, Papua New Guinea. The Accountant will manage day-to-day financial operations, including processing invoices, recording journal entries, reconciling accounts, and maintaining accurate general ledger records. The role includes preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, supporting budget preparation, and monitoring variances against approved budgets. The Accountant will ensure compliance with local accounting standards, tax regulations, and internal financial policies, including proper documentation and audit readiness. The role also involves coordinating with internal teams and external partners, assisting with funding and grant reporting, and recommending process improvements to enhance financial efficiency and transparency.

Qualifications

  • Strong accounting and bookkeeping capabilities, including general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, and month-end closing.
  • Proficiency in financial reporting, budgeting, and variance analysis, with the ability to interpret financial data for non-financial stakeholders.
  • Experience using accounting software and standard office tools (e.g., Excel, Word), with attention to accuracy and data integrity.
  • Knowledge of local tax laws, compliance requirements, and basic audit procedures relevant to organizations operating in Papua New Guinea.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; professional certification (e.g., CPA or equivalent) is an advantage.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Clear, professional communication skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues from diverse professional and cultural backgrounds.
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and commitment to ethical financial practices; prior experience in a political, non-profit, or public-sector environment is a plus.
