Iowa Workforce Development is seeking applicants for the position of Accountant 2.

The Accountant 2 is a junior role within Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) Finance Division. Primary responsibilities of this position professional level accounting work including journal entry, reconciliation, and preparation of internal and external reports related to department invoicing.

Job Description
As an Accountant 2 your will compile and prepare GAAP Package information from each area and validates accuracy of reports and filings on a monthly/quarterly basis, coordinating with DOM and Auditors for routine questions and clarification to ensure accuracy in reporting prior to closeout each year. You will work with Accountant 3 to validate report on a monthly/quarterly basis and coordinates directly with auditors to answer questions and provide additional details or information as requested.

In this role you will complete level 4 and 5 pre-audits for Accounting Technicians’ GAX and PRC documents, ensuring correct amount, fund, unit, object code, sub-unit, and program are entered for each transaction to ensure accuracy and increase speed and proficiency within the department.

You will work directly with other Accountant 2 staff members in the Accounting Bureau to cover down on cash draw to manage IWD’s cash flow and ensure adequate cash on hand to meet obligations. Includes completing daily drawdowns out of the Payment Management System, reviewing cash needs of state appropriations, and investigating variances between grant budget and revenues recorded in I3. Also prepares and approves cash receipts as needed in I3.

Accountant 2 completes monthly and quarterly invoicing to other agencies and tracks payment details and timelines to ensure information is recorded in I3 and accounted for on GAAP package. Follows up with agencies to ensure accuracy and timeliness of payments, coordinating with the Bureau Chief and CFO should there be a dispute in charges.
Prepare and review Trade payroll weekly through the Iowa Works System.
