Terms of Employment : 10-month employment contract. Salary and work year as reviewed and established annually by the Board of Education
Evaluation : Performance of this position will be evaluated regularly in accordance with the Board’s policy.
Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:30AM – 12:30PM
Job Summary
Chapman Middle School is looking for an experienced Secretary to assist in running an efficient and effective school office. This position will require a high degree of accuracy, accountability, attention to detail and confidentiality. The school Secretary must be people oriented, have the ability to multi-task and be highly organized.
Qualifications
High school diploma, required.
Associates or Bachelors Degree preferred, but not required.
Minimum of three years of successful experience in a secretarial position.
Performance Responsibilities:
Provide clerical and administrative support to the Principal
Coordinate appropriate documents for communication with the district office
Maintain all recordkeeping for students and staff
Maintain student and staff confidentiality in all circumstances
Communicate effectively with public and district staff
Use common computer hardware and software with facility and under pressure
Manage multi-line phone systems
Perform petty cash and school funds transactions and recordkeeping
Perform general office duties such as answering telephone inquiries, filing, mail, spreadsheets, and journal entries on a daily basis
Maintain records with a high degree of accuracy
Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
Ability to work with minimal direct supervision
Maintain the integrity of information systems, databases, and office files
Reconcile accounts
Work and stay on task with frequent interruptions

Have excellent integrity; demonstrate good moral character and initiative
Knowledge and comfortable with using basic technology (computer, printer, copier, fax machine)
Exhibit a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents and the community, including difficult and emotional situations.
Appropriate and professional telephone etiquette
Ability to start and stop projects due to multiple interruptions, multi-tasking
General bookkeeping and filing skills
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit, talk and hear. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. On occasion the employee may be required to work extended hours.
