This position is located in the Department of Buildings (DOB), Vacant Buildings and Housing Abatement, Office of Strategic Code Enforcement. The mission of the DOB is to protect the health, safety, economic interests, and quality of life of residents, businesses, and visitors in the District of Columbia by issuing permits, conducting inspections, enforcing building, housing, and safety codes, regulating land use and development. The mission of Vacant Buildings and Housing Abatement is to maintain accountability of all vacant properties within the District and ensure all properties are in compliance with applicable code standards.
Incumbent is responsible for ensuring the administrative staff fulfill daily responsibilities aligned with the mission of the business unit, including, processing of applications for registration of vacant properties, resolving property owner concerns via phone and in person meetings, notifying the Office of Tax and Revenue of the status of vacant properties for the purpose of property tax billing.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs department, program and function-specific administrative duties requiring analysis and interpretation of unique, detailed, complex and/or vague procedures and regulations, with minimal or no oversight from higher level staff. Analyzes, researches, and gathers information on special assignments that require a high degree of program knowledge and independence. Drafts sensitive and confidential reports.
Plans and assigns work to be accomplished by subordinates based on priorities, sets and adjusts short-term priorities, prepares schedules for completion of work, develops performance standards and evaluates work
performance of subordinates. Provides advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters. Maintains the administrative calendar, schedules all appointments, and coordinates workflow to and from the Department/Administration. Manages the email communications of the Department/Administration.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION
Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, one (1) year of specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression.

The work is performed in an office setting, which is adequately lighted, health and ventilated.
