About Our Department
Reference Services provides professional reference service to the city and region, furthering information literacy skills and lifelong learning for our customers, and supporting staff system-wide in reference skills acquisition. Located at the Central Library, our collection includes over 20,000 reference books, 120,000 bound periodicals, 1.1 million federal government documents and a wide range of
electronic resources

About the Position
DPL is hiring a part time (20 hour) Library Assistant III to provide outstanding support for the Reference Services department. In this position, you will foster curiosity by providing support for our professional reference service and collection maintenance. Members of our library assistant team strengthen connection by sharing in supporting librarians and library staff serving a diverse clientele of all ages. You will challenge inequity and share in upholding our excellent customer service reputation by supporting reference services that welcome customers of all backgrounds. We are looking for strong internal customer service skills to honor the public trust through effective communication about issues and initiatives with customers, coworkers, and administration. Some of the duties and responsibilities of this position include:
maintaining the extensive collection including reference books, magazines, bound periodicals, microform and federal documents.
filling router (holds) and Interlibrary Loan requests.
performing database maintenance, collection maintenance activities, and supply ordering to support department operations.
processing serials and federal documents.
coordinating copier, printer, and scanner maintenance.
collecting departmental statistics.
assisting in managing the workflow of DPL’s Ask Us chat and email service.
staffing internal materials retrieval phone.
assisting librarians with projects.
providing excellent customer service to colleagues and customers.
participating in taking minutes during weekly staff meetings.
About you
Our ideal candidate has:
Knowledge of office practices and procedures.
Skill in interpreting, communicating and presenting information.
Skill in operating a computer, including Google Apps (Email, Drive, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, etc.) and MS Word & Excel.
Ability to work with computer databases, including report creation and analysis.
Ability to thrive working in an environment with people from diverse backgrounds and age groups.
Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor in working with customers and coworkers.
Ability to creatively solve problems, multi-task and prioritize.
We know your time is valuable. Applicants who meet the following minimum requirements will be considered:
High school diploma or equivalent
Two (2) years clerical experience.
Experience working with integrated library system software preferred
Preferred Qualification:
Spanish language skills are a plus

Reference Services is open seven days a week. The schedule will be determined by the needs of the department and may include Sundays.
There is no free parking for staff at the Central Library and staff who drive to work must make their own parking arrangements. Discounted RTD (bus, light rail) passes are available to staff.
