Position: ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

To assist the head of a department, agency, or division by relieving such superior of complex administrative duties and responsibilities that are directly related to the primary function of the agency and the purpose of the work of said superior; and to do related work as required.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the general supervision of a superior who is usually an agency head, with wide latitude for the exercise of independent judgment in the performance of assignments; work is subject to review for conformance to policies, rules, and instructions.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Supervises and coordinates the work of subordinates assigned to assist in administrative tasks.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist the head of a department, agency, or division by relieving such superior of complex administrative duties and responsibilities.

Study and analyze operational procedures and prepare detailed reports of findings and recommendations.

Collaborate with the Division of Methods, Research and Office Services on method studies and implement approved changes.

Perform public relations duties such as preparing news releases, writing and delivering speeches, and engaging with community groups to promote agency programs.

Assist in preparing the agency’s annual budget through administrative tasks and research.

Supervise staff engaged in providing administrative support services, including personnel, budget, fiscal, and supply management.

Coordinate workflow among various units within the agency and manage space, equipment, supplies, and personnel allocation.

Handle important and routine correspondence.

Perform related work as required.

KNOW LEDGES, SKILLS, AND CAPABILITIES

Knowledge of principles and practices of public administration and modern office management; ability to supervise and coordinate administrative staff; ability to prepare reports and recommendations; ability to write and deliver speeches; and related skills and capabilities.

EDUCATION

AND EXPERIENCE

Education:

Graduation from a recognized college.

Experience:

Employment as a staff assistant to an agency head or as a technician in administrative studies within a large organization.

Or any combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to the above.

Knowledge of fisheries management is preferred.
