Position: ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER I STATEWIDE
Legal Assistant (current position) within Maryland Department of Human Services, Local Department of Social Services, Prince George’s County Child Support Administration. Responsible for conducting administrative hearings, preparing legal documents, negotiating settlement conferences, supervising special projects, and analyzing data related to the operation of the Legal Unit.
Responsibilities
- Attend and conduct court hearings, including settlement conferences, to obtain consent agreements and prepare consent orders.
- Complete court follow‑up: retain required documentation, enter information into the court calendar, update case disposition, and process modifications.
- Conduct legal research and prepare legal documents; contact parties, schedule interviews, request information, and monitor the discovery process.
- Provide customer service by responding to and resolving inquiries.
- Supervise and conduct studies and analyses of agency programs, procedures, or systems; formulate reports and recommendations.
- Prepare or supervise the preparation of management tools such as procedural manuals, statistical reports, workflow charts, performance criteria, or organization charts.
- Participate in program planning by developing forecasts, proposals, or procedures for growth; advise departmental officials on practices, procedures, or policies.
- Coordinate inter‑agency transactions and provide liaison with officials in other agencies, the legislature, federal government, private industry, or local agencies.
- Assist a higher‑level administrator in formulation and preparation of an agency’s budget or budget portions; perform related duties.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
- One year of administrative staff or professional work; 30 college credit hours may substitute for experience.
- U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer with staff work involving independent judgment and analysis may substitute for experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Six months of experience preparing pleadings, motions, and court documents and/or participating in administrative hearings before a Magistrate or Judge; experience using Maryland Electronic Courts (MDEC).
- Six months of experience utilizing MDThink applications such as Child Support Management System (CSMS) and Eligibility and Enrollment (E&E).
- Six months of experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), Google Sheets, or Smartsheet.
- One year of experience creating and submitting written reports or evaluations.
- One year of experience communicating with internal and external customers, community partners, or stakeholders.
- One year of experience in formulation and preparation of an agency’s budget or portions thereof.
Licenses, Registrations & Certifications
Employees may be assigned duties requiring operation of a motor vehicle and must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license in Maryland.
