Atlanta Legal Aid Society (“Legal Aid”) seeks an Executive Assistant to support the Executive Director and Deputy Director of Atlanta Legal Aid, as well as the Board of Directors. Founded in 1924, our non-profit law firm represents low-income people in a variety of civil legal matters including family, housing, consumer, public benefits, education and health law in a five-county service area (Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton, Gwinnett). Legal Aid employs over 150 staff and operates five offices and numerous units, programs and projects throughout its service area. Our clients and their legal issues are diverse and numerous.
Responsibilities:
Providing professional, high-level administrative support to the Executive Director and Deputy Director, including managing schedules, coordinating meetings, and preparing correspondence
Assisting the Executive Director in supporting the Officers, Executive Committee, and Board of Directors, including scheduling meetings, maintaining official records, drafting and revising official documents, and providing other administrative support
Maintaining and organizing confidential files, reports, and legal documents
Drafting, proofreading, and editing reports, presentations, and meeting minutes
Serving as a liaison between the Executive Director, Deputy Director and internal/external stakeholders, ensuring clear and timely communication
Assisting in planning and coordinating special events, board meetings, and training sessions
Managing travel arrangements and expense reports
Responding to external inquiries from potential clients, vendors, and others, with compassion and patience
In coordination with the Deputy Director, responsible for following up with clients who had made complaints or filed grievances
Providing support to other members of the senior leadership team from time to time as requested
Performing other administrative duties as needed to support the organization’s goals
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
At least 3-5 years of experience (more preferred) as an Executive Assistant or similar position,, preferably in a nonprofit and/or legal environment
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with a diverse group of stakeholders, including staff, volunteer attorneys, board members, and other legal professionals, vendors, donors, and funders
Strong work ethic and adaptability
Excellent writing skills
Excellent interpersonal, communication, listening, and organizational skills
Ability to balance compassion and pragmatism
Patient, even-tempered, and has excellent people and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a collaborative, hybrid team model, with an appreciation for diversity
Eagerness to learn and openness to feedback
Demonstrated commitment to public service and previous work with low-income people are strongly preferred
Professionalism, discretion, and ability to handle sensitive information with integrity.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace, with a willingness to learn other software
Proficiency in languages other than English, specifically Spanish, and a willingness to enhance language skills are highly valued
Salary and Benefits:
The salary is $65,000, depending on work experience. Salaries are reviewed and adjusted annually, depending on funding.

This position largely requires physical presence in the office, sometimes before or after normal business hours for meetings and events, with occasional remote days subject to approval of the Executive Director or Deputy Director.
