Job Description

School Secretary
Iowa School for the Deaf is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented person with at least of two years of related experience.

ASL is highly preferred.

This position will support Iowa School for the Deaf’s academic department (middle school and high school program) and serve as a school secretary. This is a year round position.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Provides administrative support to the principal and educational program; greets and screens visitors and answers the phone; composes routine correspondence, maintains records, obtains and provides factual information requiring a knowledge of policies and procedures; coordinates meetings, processes mailings, creates and updates databases. This position requires excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, the ability to communicate with a range of publics and working with confidential information. Position requires anticipating and responding to internal and external stakeholder needs. Demonstrated ability to multi-task and continually prioritize workload without compromising attention to detail required.

ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of related clerical office experience, related undergraduate education and/or post high school clerical training that is the equivalent to two years of full-time employment and includes the use of word processing. Strong typing skills are a must. Experience with Microsoft Office, Google products, virtual meeting software. Able to research on the internet.

Desirable candidates will also possess a minimum level of Intermediate ASL skills.

COMPENSATION:
Pay starts: $19.37/per hour Comprehensive benefit package including:
Heath and dental insurance

Paid sick leave and paid vacation
APPOINTMENT TYPE: Full-time, Monday – Friday

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Experience equal to two years of full-time general office work, one year of which must have involved secretarial or related administrative support duties;

OR

post high school course work in an accredited secretarial, business, or closely related curriculum may be substituted for the required experience on a month-for-month basis;
OR

completion of thirty (30) semester (or equivalent) hours of undergraduate college level course work may be substituted for the one year of required general office experience;
OR

certification from the State of Iowa Administrative Assistant Certificate Program will substitute for six months of the required experience;
OR

employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes the equivalent of one year of full-time work as a Secretary 1.
