Summary
This position serves as an Advanced Medical Support Assistant at the VA WNY Healthcare System, under the supervision of the Health Administration Service. Performs clerical work supporting patient care, such as receiving patients, maintaining patient files, and advising on medical record systems. Requires analytical ability, judgment, discretion, and dedication to customer service.
Duties
Coordinate clinic utilization reports and monitor clinic setup to support patient needs.
Develop and maintain effective communication with patients, caregivers, interdisciplinary teams, VA centers, and other agencies.
Participate in team meetings, set priorities, and manage workflow to meet patient care needs.
Enter information into electronic records and monitor pre-appointment requirements.
Evaluate patient information and clinic schedules for patient eligibility and vested status.
Utilize multiple computer applications for administrative duties.

Manage correspondence, medical records, and release of information.
Verify and update patient demographics and insurance information.
Assist in report development for practice performance and workload.
Coordinate patient care information and schedule appointments.
Manage recall systems, patient inactivation, and perform receptionist duties.
Screen patients and facilitate transfers and preauthorization requirements.
Assist with patient enrollment in My Health
EVet and Secure Messaging.
Work Schedule
Full time;
Monday – Friday 7:00am-3:30pm
Requirements
Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Proficiency in English.
Subject to background/security investigation.
Complete online onboarding and pass pre-employment physical.
Participation in influenza vaccination program required.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements: 6 months clerical or administrative experience, or 1 year of education above high school, or an equivalent combination.
Grade Determinations: For GS-06, one year of experience at GS-05 level and demonstrated KSAs including collaboration, organization, communication, knowledge of healthcare processes, policies, and medical terminology.
