Description:

Assists the public to adopt animals in animal shelter and compiles records of impounded animals by performing the essential duties and responsibilities. Greets the public, answers the phones, educates patrons about licensing, adoption, sterilization, immunization, city ordinances. Collects fees, balances daily cash box. Candidates that will thrive in this position will be able to multitask, work in a fast-paced environment, and be self-motivated to accomplish tasks.

Starting Pay:$15.35

Schedule:Monday – Friday, 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assists prospective owners in selection of animals for adoption and in preparation of adoption forms.

Advises new owners of pet examination and neutering services.

Maintains list of prospective pet owners and contacts them when desired type of pet is available.

Prepares license forms and collects fees.

Reviews shelter records of licensed pet owners to identify owners of lost pets.

Reviews others shelter records to help find lost pets.

Compiles daily records required by animal shelter describing stray animals found by shelter workers and animals turned in by public.

Types correspondence, organize files, maintains filing system, answers phones and deals with the public.

Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Ability to speak effectively before groups.

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

One to three months related experience and/or training.

Language Skills

Must be able to effectively communicate in the English language both verbally and in writing.

Other Skills and Abilities

Communication skills that present a pleasant and positive impression to those who visit the animal shelter or calls on the phone.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit.

The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and outside weather conditions.

Exposure to intermittent stress as a result of human behavior.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
