SUMMARY

Southern University at Shreveport, Louisiana (SUSLA) is accepting applications for the Support Specialist/Data Entry position. SUSLA is a comprehensive community college serving Shreveport, Bossier City, and surrounding areas in Northwest Louisiana. It is one of five campuses constituting the Historically Black Southern University System. The University serves approximately 3,000 undergraduate students and offers 32 undergraduate degrees and certificate programs in a variety of fields including Allied Health, Nursing, Aerospace Technology, Business Studies, Behavioral Science/Education and Science & Technology.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Support Specialist/Data Entryinputs participant data into records management system. Assist with data collections for Annual Performance Report (APR). Some basic clerical duties. May assist participants with completion of Financial Aid and Admissions applications. Develop educational plans for participants and conduct activities to implement these plans fully. Refer high school dropouts to Adult Education Programs. Reports to the Project Director. Provides information on secondary education, postsecondary programs, financial aid, admissions and enrollment. Perform other duties as assigned.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Support the Educational Specialist and Team with daily operations to maintain program.
Input participant data into records management system. Assist with data collections for Annual Performance Report (APR).
Supports the compliance with University and Federal regulations.
Some basic clerical duties. May assist participants with completion of Financial Aid and Admissions applications.
Develop educational plans for participants and conduct activities to implement these plans fully.
Provides information on secondary education, postsecondary programs, financial aid, admissions and enrollment. Perform other duties as assigned. Assist with bridging referrals of high school drop-out to adult literacy to further education, military, or employment.
Assures compliance with all regulations and assurances necessary for operation. Recruitment for EOC Program participants. Provide oversight to the EOC Orientation and host community workshops and information sessions.
Roles and duties vary and involve a mix of interpersonal, administrative and advocacy work. Depending on the setting, and case-by-case issues, daily duties may include: Meeting with participants to identify and discuss their educational enrollment, financial aid services, and providing support/advice in a one-on-one or group setting.
Perform all other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in guidance and counseling education, or related field/disciplines; A minimum of 2 years’ experience in career counseling, educational assistance programs, such as postsecondary financial aid and admissions; Technical knowledge required.
Demonstrated experience as a case manager in an adult education, job placement, vocational skills training, or welfare-to-work program
Knowledge of job training, education, and social service referral resources
Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong computer skills, flexibility and ability to work well under pressure
Excellent time management and organizational skills, ability to multi-task, and meet deadlines.

Work experience in TRiO programs
