Summary Description:

Under general supervision, provides diversified administrative secretarial support, exercising independent judgment to maximize office efficiency and accuracy of schedules, meetings, calendars, and communications. Researches, gathers, analyzes and disseminates information to assist management in informational and statistical reporting. May oversee and coordinate budgeting and accounting activities which include revenue and expenditures of general and grant funds. Understands issues in the department and composes correspondence as needed. Screens telephone calls and visitors, resolves routine to moderately complex issues and may initiate correspondence, as necessary. Prepares meeting minutes. Supports interaction with physician leadership, Wayne State University personnel, DMC management, and other physicians and staff to dispense information regarding departmental policies, procedures, practices and general information. May coordinate and oversee the work of lower level administrative/clerical support personnel.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Associate’s degree or equivalent with advanced courses in secretarial and computer science, or a combination of related education and/or experience.
2. Working knowledge of medical terminology.
3. Three to four years of progressively more responsible medical secretarial experience or related experience, including performing secretarial/administrative duties for key physician management personnel.

Skills Required:

1. Analytical ability to gather, disseminate and interpret statistical reports and related information.
2. Proficient secretarial, organizational, communication, and administrative skills.
3. Independent judgment, poise and tact to screen calls, make appointments, establish and organize meetings and communicate sensitive information.
4. High level of interpersonal skills to deal effectively with DMC physicians, management staff, employees, and community.
5. Ability to react quickly and confidently to changing priorities and stressful emergency or conflict situations.
