Under the general direction of the Academic Materials Manager, the Retail Buying Assistant will be responsible for providing clerical support to the buying team as well as the buying of academic materials for Cornell Retail Services. With the direction of the Academic Materials Manager, this position will be selecting products, implementing pricing strategy, and achieving financial objectives to increase revenue. This position assists with managing product selection offered in-store and online through communication with faculty and staff.  The Retail Buying Assistant will support current inventory levels to minimize markdown liabilities by helping to forecast new merchandise and reorder to achieve optimal inventory levels.

A successful Retail Buying Assistant will:

Demonstrate a personable, professional, and service-oriented demeanor to work effectively with both internal and external customers and clients.

Collaborate with different members of The Cornell Store team to ensure the integrity of the product database. Being aware of required course materials and reorders to achieve optimal inventory levels during rush and other key campus events. Partners closely with the warehouse team to ensure they are fully informed of product distributions, timing, and quantity.

Communicates efficiently (both oral and written) with customers, faculty, and staff.

Required Qualifications:

Associate’s degree with at least 2 years of relevant experience, particularly in retail and/or inventory management including data analysis or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Preferred Qualification:

College industry experience is highly desirable, especially within academic materials and supplies.
