5J Transportation is looking to bring Owner Operators in the Houston, Texas area.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Drives and operates the truck tractor and flatbed, step deck, doble drop, multi axle trailer to load, unload, or disperse materials as required
Always communicates with dispatch on any delays or issues
Responsible for maintaining driver logs; in compliance with the most recent duty status change from FMCSA
Ability to conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections on company and or Owner Operators vehicles based on FMCSA DOT requirements
Performs and assumes other duties and responsibilities as may be required by supervisors, dispatchers, safety team
Must have an applicable knowledge of FMCSA & DOT Rules and Regulations
Be able to lift and move Tarps, chains, and dunnage manually (weights may vary between 40-160 pounds)
Maneuvers trucks into loading or unloading positions (Never backs into a blind spot without a spotter)
Checks vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order
Reports vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage immediately before moving motorized vehicle
Inspects loads to ensure that cargo is secure
Understands securement devices WWL (working load limits)
Drives trucks to weigh stations before and after loading and along routes in compliance with State regulations
Performs basic vehicle maintenance tasks, such as adding oil, fuel, or radiator fluid, checking air pressure in each tire, ability to read tread depth gauge, or performing minor repairs such as change light bulbs and or adjust air brakes, and has the fundamental tools for these types of repairs.
Operates equipment, such as truck cab computers, CB radios, phones, or global positioning systems (GPS) equipment to exchange necessary information with bases, supervisors, or other drivers. (Never operates the FMCSA equipment while using cell phone devices)
Read and interpret maps to determine vehicle routes
Must have the ability (if transporting permitted loads) to read a state permitted route and understand the restrictions
Must dress with all PPE (safety equipment per company policy) when on duty loading or offloading
Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions at times
Skills and Qualifications:
Must have at least 2 years’ driving experience.
Oversize experience a plus, but not required (but must be willing to learn)
Candidates are required to successfully complete the pre-screen process:
Pass drug and alcohol screens
Have a current CDL
Have a current medical card
Have a “clean” MVR (no more than 3 violations in the past 3 years)
Pass a background check
Doubles and Triples endorsement if pulling multi axle equipment
Punctuality: Must be on time!
