Mon – Fri; 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Certifications/Licenses Required: A minimum of three (3) years of related office experience; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that enables performance of all aspects of this position.
SUMMARY
The
City of Chicopee’s
Building Department
is hiring a
Clerk
who will serve as the primary back-up for the Senior Clerk, act as receptionist, handle reminder letters for COIs, assist in letter writing for violations with inspectors, and serve as record filer for Building, Electrical, Plumbing/Gas, and Weights and Measures inspections. The Clerk must assist the public in obtaining/applying for various permits, Certificates of Occupancy, and Certificates of Inspection, especially for multi-family properties.
Office duties as assigned by the Senior Clerk.
ESSENTIAL
DUTIES INCLUDE:
Knowledge of computers is essential.
Fill in for the Senior Clerk during absences, including payroll duties.
Receive supervision from the Senior Clerk.
Assist the public, contractors, electricians, and plumbers at the counter.
Record zone changes and update files.
Record Certificates of Occupancy for new businesses.
Record Inspection Cards and report relevant information to the Assessor’s Office on the date of Certificate of Occupancy for all construction.
Maintain records of all contractors working in Chicopee, verifying licenses, registrations, and insurance validity.
Verify map and parcel numbers on all building permit applications.
Produce regular reports from ERP/Munis.
Collaborate with municipal departments, private individuals, and companies.
Assist and answer questions from customers, public officials, and staff via in person, email, Permit Eyes, and telephone.
Receive complaints and refer them to appropriate staff.
Investigate errors and resolve issues as needed.
Perform related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
At least three (3) years of relevant office experience.
Or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that enables performance of all aspects of the role.
Municipal and/or Public Administration experience is preferred.
