Founded in 1971 in Long Island City, Queens, LaGuardia Community College is one of seven community colleges of the City University of New York/CUNY. LaGuardia offers more than sixty associate degree and certificate programs, as well as dozens of workforce training, ESOL, GED, and pre-college programs. In 2023, LaGuardia served approximately 25,000 students. More than one-third of our degree-seeking students were born outside of the United States, coming to LaGuardia from 136 countries and speaking forty-three heritage languages. More than half are first-generation college students. Sixty-nine percent live in Queens; the rest live in Brooklyn and beyond. Approximately two-thirds of our degree students receive financial aid. Under the Chief Librarian and Chairperson, the Administrative Specialist is responsible for supervising Library operations at LaGuardia Community College in Long Island City, Queens. The Administrative Specialist works closely with the staff and faculty of a variety of campus and CUNY offices and programs to provide administrative and fiscal support.
Specifically, the Administrative Specialist is expected to perform the following duties:
+ Assist the Chief Librarian on all matters pertaining to the administration of the Library Department, including staffing and scheduling, fiscal operations and budgeting, data collection and reporting, and facilities and equipment management.
+ Assist the Chief Librarian in the recruitment, onboarding, management and payroll of all Library Department staff and faculty.
+ Assist the Chief Librarian in coordinating and preparing evaluation materials for faculty promotion and tenure reviews.
+ Prepare annual evaluation and promotion materials for staff.
+ Supervise and provide support to part-time staff and CUNY Office Assistants in multiple Library units, including, but not limited to, Access Services, Technical Services, and Media Services.
+ Ensure accurate and timely reporting of all financial and administrative activities.
+ Maintain archives, inventories, statistics, and collections of materials or records needed by the Library Department and for reporting to ACRL & IPEDs.
+ Represent the Library Department at campus and university meetings and activities related to administrative and fiscal operations.
+ Participate in campus- or university-wide committees and projects and undertake additional assignments and program activities as assigned.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
Bachelor’s Degree and four years’ relevant experience required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Expertise in Microsoft 365 (especially Excel).
Expertise with budgeting and procurement processes such as CUNYFirst/CUNYBuy.
Experience working in higher education and/or libraries.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Manages budget and coordinates purchasing, accounting, and payroll.
Provides instructions and basic advice to students, faculty, and others seeking information on department activities, policies, and schedules.
