Introduction
The Maryland Department of Labor is currently accepting applications for Administrative Specialist II. This position is responsible for approving new applications for licensure. This requires the employee to use independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative policies and legal interpretations.

Main Purpose of Job
The main purpose of this position will be responsible for approving new applicants for licensure. The requires the employee to use independent judgement and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative policies and legal interpretations.
POSITION DUTIES
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
Approves or disapproves the original applications of applicants, using independent judgment based on experience and knowledge of current laws and regulations. Approves name changes, credit reports and other changes in license status. Approves or disapproves the applications of reciprocal applicants, agreements and information as required by real estate lase. Independent decisions are made using the knowledge of reciprocal laws and regulations from both Maryland and the applicant’s original State of licensure.
Confers with other departments/programs such as the Call Center and payment Center
Assist Licensing Administrative Specialist III and Licensing Supervisor
Works with other staff in answering telephone calls and assisting walk-in customers
Works with the Executive Director to address issues, problems, errors, or complaints regarding the issuance of licenses when Licensing Administrative Specialist III or Licensing Supervisor is unavailable.
Preforms other related duties
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: One year of experience performing administrative staff, clerical, clerical technical, or secretarial work.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Strong preference will be given to applicants that possess the following. Include clear and specific information on your application regarding the qualification(s).
Experience in administrative staff or professional work
Licensing experience
Experience with AS400
Strong problem solving skills
Attention to detail
Proficient in google platform apps
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Candidates may be responsible for providing their own transportation as needed to access meetings, remote locations, and job destinations as assigned.
All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (MDOL/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to MDOL/DUI as a result of unemployment overpayment/fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.
