COURT CLERK II

DEFINITION OF WORK:

Under supervision and direction of the Court Administrator, the Court Clerk II is responsible for providing specialized administrative support and technical dissemination services to ensure proper and efficient Municipal Court and Bond Court operations. This includes recording all steps in the judicial process following City of Beaufort and South Carolina Court Administration standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Assist in collecting and maintaining accountability for traffic tickets and warrants; perform data entry; receive payments; prepare deposits; and maintain logs.

Check docket citations for infractions and misdemeanors, maintaining accurate records and filing systems.

Organize court calendars, issue notices, and distribute calendars to relevant agencies.

File court documents and enter data into the computer system.

Receive bail forfeitures and fines, process payments, and complete court dispositions.

Prepare court documents such as warrants, orders, and subpoenas, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.

Attend court sessions, serve as court annotator, and greet participants courteously.

Maintain court schedules and juror lists, and assist in resolving participant issues efficiently.

Perform clerical duties including typing, proofreading, and distributing court orders and correspondence.

Serve as liaison between judges and other departments, and support higher-level clerical tasks as needed.

Ensure all traffic tickets and warrants are properly collected, entered, and filed.

Assist with financial transactions, including balancing cash drawers and preparing deposits.

Manage incoming mail, maintain case files, and support judicial and administrative tasks.

Utilize office equipment and technology efficiently.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Excellent customer service and communication skills.

Proficiency in computer use, data entry, and office software.

Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.

Ability to analyze situations, use good judgment, and maintain confidentiality.

Physical ability to perform job duties, including walking, sitting, and reaching.

Valid driver’s license and relevant training in criminal justice information security.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma or GED, with 1-2 years of legal/office experience or training.
