Position: Customer Service Representative (No Proof of Vaccination Required)
The Placer County Sheriff’s Office has one Administrative Assistant vacancy. This position provides direct administrative and secretarial support to a Sheriff’s Captain at the South Placer Jail. The ideal candidate will be able to multitask, be efficient at time management, schedule, organize, communicate effectively, take notes, and demonstrate a willingness to continue learning. A self-driven, strong communicator with the ability to manage competing priorities and utilize Microsoft Excel at an expert-level are essential skills.
The County will pay a differential of five percent (5%) of base salary to employees in this classification who are routinely and consistently assigned to work within a jail facility.
The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used for both temporary/extra-help
* and permanent positions in various County departments as they arise, subject to position requirements.
* Temporary/Extra-help assignments are limited to 28 hours per week with a cap of 999 hours or 960 hours for CalPERS retired annuitants in a fiscal year and are not eligible for benefits. Extra-help appointments made from this eligible list may transition to permanent status, should vacancies arise.

Employees provide administrative and responsible secretarial support to a department in areas such as budget, personnel, or a departmental program or function, and typically report to a division head. Employees at this level are required to be fully trained in all procedures related to assigned area of responsibility.

Examples of Essential Duties
- Perform a wide variety of complex, responsible, confidential secretarial and administrative duties for management staff.
- Perform administrative projects for management staff; research and compile background data; maintain records and files regarding department administrative activities.
- Screen calls, visitors, and mail; respond to moderately complex requests for information.
- Interpret and explain County and department policies, rules, and regulations in response to inquiries; refer inquiries as appropriate; assist in developing department policies and procedures to meet department objectives.
- Independently respond to letters and general correspondence not requiring the attention of management staff.
- Coordinate and make travel arrangements; maintain appointment schedules and calendars; arrange meetings and conferences.
- Perform accounting functions related to accounts payable or receivables.
- Maintain timecard and payroll records including employee evaluations and disciplinary actions; maintain personnel files and records for management staff.
- Order and purchase supplies for the department.
- Perform clerical duties related to department activities such as typing, filing, and distributing mail.
- Participate and assist in the administration of a department budget; compile annual budget requests and recommend expenditure requests for designated accounts.
