Purpose of the Position
The Deputy Provost supports the Provost in providing strategic, academic, and administrative leadership for the College. The role ensures the effective implementation of institutional policies, maintains academic standards, coordinates daily operations, and promotes excellence in nursing education, research, and community service. The Deputy Provost acts on behalf of the Provost in their absence.
Key Responsibilities1. Academic Leadership
- Assist in the development and implementation of academic policies and programmes.
- Ensure compliance with the standards of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN), NBTE, JAMB, and other regulatory agencies.
- Monitor the quality of teaching, learning, and assessment.
- Coordinate curriculum development, review, and accreditation activities.
- Promote research, innovation, and professional development among staff.
2. Administrative Management
- Oversee the day-to-day academic and administrative operations of the College.
- Coordinate the activities of departments, committees, and administrative units.
- Assist in preparing institutional reports, strategic plans, and annual work plans.
- Monitor implementation of College policies and procedures.
- Supervise assigned administrative staff and ensure effective service delivery.
3. Student Affairs
- Support the development of policies that promote student welfare and academic success.
- Ensure discipline and adherence to the College's rules and regulations.
- Participate in student admission, orientation, progression, and graduation processes.
- Address student complaints and recommend appropriate solutions.
4. Quality Assurance and Compliance
- Coordinate internal quality assurance activities.
- Ensure compliance with accreditation requirements and statutory regulations.
- Monitor institutional performance indicators and recommend improvements.
- Lead preparations for accreditation visits and external quality assessments.
5. Human Resource Support
- Participate in staff recruitment, orientation, mentoring, and performance evaluation.
- Identify staff training and development needs.
- Foster teamwork, professionalism, and accountability.
6. Financial and Resource Management
- Assist in budget preparation and monitoring.
- Ensure efficient utilization of institutional resources.
- Support resource mobilization and institutional development initiatives.
7. Representation
- Represent the Provost at meetings, conferences, and official engagements when delegated.
- Serve on institutional committees and represent the College before regulatory agencies where required.
8. Acting Responsibilities
- Perform the duties of the Provost during periods of absence or as delegated.
- Ensure continuity of institutional leadership and decision-making.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor of Nursing Science (B.N.Sc.) from a recognized institution.
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
- Registered Midwife (RM) licensed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
- Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Nursing, Nursing Education, Health Sciences, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
- Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) or equivalent teaching qualification.
- Ph.D. in Nursing or a related discipline is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 6 years of progressive post-qualification experience, with at least 3 years in academic administration or a senior leadership position in a nursing education institution or healthcare organization.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) regulations, accreditation standards, and nursing education policies.
- Membership of relevant professional bodies is an added advantage.
