This position is assigned to Perquimans Juvenile Detention Center in Hertford, NC.
The Division of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention will be opening a new juvenile detention center in Perquimans County, Spring of 2024; the Perquimans Juvenile Detention Center will be located at 125 Jessup St, Hertford, NC 27944.
Recruitment Range – $72,975-$81,855
The primary purpose of the Detention Center Director position is to manage the operations of a Division of Juvenile Justice & Delinquency Prevention detention center in accordance with all applicable statutes, policies, and procedures.
The Director position will oversee staff members who will be responsible for managing behavior, counseling, and supervising a fluctuating population of both male and female youth offenders. In addition, the Director position will oversee the ongoing collaboration between detention and court services in order to ensure the timely rendering of services for youth.
The emphasis of this position is on the safe housing of youth that are in secure custody under court order. The Detention Center Director position will be involved in hiring, training, and supervising all facility staff, and managing daily operations in all areas (budgeting, staffing, programming, physical plant, training).
The mission of the Juvenile Justice Section in the Department of Public Safety, Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice is to reduce and prevent juvenile delinquency by effectively operating an integrated, comprehensive juvenile justice system that intervenes through education and treatment of youth in order to promote youth accountability, strengthen families, and increase public safety. The regional juvenile detention centers are an integral part of the juvenile justice continuum that provides temporary and safe custody of juveniles who are accused of conduct subject to the jurisdiction of the court who require a restricted environment for their own or the community protection while pending legal action.

If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.
