Director of Conference & Event Services – Division of Student Affairs Jobs in Pittsburgh, PA at Cargenie Mellon University

The Director of Conference & Event Services is responsible for the comprehensive leadership of the Department of Conference & Event Services (CES), which has primary responsibility to develop, market, publicize and coordinate various conference and event service functions on the Carnegie Mellon campus. Specifically, the Director leads the department in planning and implementing programs and initiatives in support of campus partners, external constituents, and high-profile public events where consultation, production, and event management services (from planning to execution) are required. The Director ensures that the department upholds the exacting standards of the University while ensuring all events exhibit the same level of quality that reflects Carnegie Mellon’s longstanding commitment to tradition, excellence, and academic inquiry. This role will report to the Senior Director of Strategy for Event and Program Development.

Your core responsibilities will include:

Develop and manage a $4M departmental budget and related financial activities including implementing an annual marketing plan. Grow revenues by engaging the community to make CMU a destination of choice for conferences and events. The role will also engage the market and leverage university housing and other spaces, dining, and catering inventory to grow the impact of this unit.

Oversee all administrative processes related to workflow within the department, including contracting, client engagement, ordering/procurement, and invoicing.

Manage and implement various conferences and multi-faceted events with on-campus partners, off-campus clientele, and prominent external organizations.

Liaison with the many off-campus service providers and on-campus units responsible for facilities management, scheduling, catering, and technology to ensure that these resources are used and optimized for CES clients and programs.

Management and development of department professionals and student staff.

Involvement in service to the broader university community through committee work and collaborative innovation.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality, Marketing or Business Administration, or related field

Minimum 5-8 years of related experience required; experience in higher education and event planning is preferred

A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

Additional Information:

Typical Work Schedule:Monday-Friday from 8:30-5:00pm. Periodic evening and weekend work is required based on the conference and event schedule, particularly during the summer months.
