Do you like books and historic documents? Are you interested in helping to preserve California’s history? Then this might be the job for you! Under direction of the Museum Curator III over the Preservation unit, the incumbent performs the duties of preserving the library’s collections by creating archival housing for collections, performing basic book repair and paper repair, and creating exhibit mounts and supports for displaying books, paintings, photographs, and other archival material. The main focus of this position is to aid in the preservation of the California State Library’s unique and diverse collections.

The California State Library serves the people of California in several ways and is made up of the Administrative Services Bureau, the California Research Bureau, State Library Services, the Information Technology Bureau and Library Development Services.
These bureaus ensure that the California State Library is the central reference and research library for state government and the Legislature and provides non-partisan research to the Legislature and the Governor. The California State Library collects, preserves, generates and disseminates information ranging from California’s priceless historical items to today’s online texts, and it advises, consults with, and provides technical assistance to California’s public libraries, all while directing state and federal funds to support local public libraries and statewide library programs, and services.
Preservation Section is responsible for the long term care, preservation and conservation of the California State Library’s collections.
