Role Description The Editor is a full-time, on-site role based in Apia, responsible for overseeing daily newsroom operations and ensuring the quality and accuracy of all published content. Day-to-day tasks include assigning and reviewing stories, editing articles for clarity, consistency, and style, and coordinating with reporters, photographers, and designers to meet publication deadlines. The Editor will manage the editorial calendar, uphold journalistic and ethical standards, and support the development of engaging content across print and online channels. This role also involves mentoring staff, providing constructive feedback, and contributing to strategic editorial planning to strengthen the newspaper’s voice and reach.

Qualifications

  • Strong editing and proofreading abilities, with a keen eye for detail, accuracy, and consistency in language and style.
  • Experience in newsroom or media environments, including managing editorial workflows and coordinating with reporters and production teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide clear feedback and guidance to staff.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethical journalism, including fact-checking, fairness, and respect for diverse perspectives.
  • Ability to work on-site in Apia, manage multiple deadlines, and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with digital publishing tools and social media platforms to support online content and audience engagement.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Media Studies, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Knowledge of Samoan current affairs and culture is highly beneficial
