CLASS TITLE: DATA ENTRY TECHNICIAN
OFFICE OF THE CLERK OF COURT/FAMILY COURT
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CLASS
The purpose of the class to perform a variety of routine-to-moderately complex clerical and data processing duties in support of the daily operations of the Office of the Clerk of Court and Family Court, and to perform related work as required. This class works according to some procedures but decides how or when to do things; work is reviewed regularly by supervisor, the Deputy of Family Court Administrator.
ESSENTIAL TASKS
The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
Data entry of adoptions and name change information.
Checks files in and out on a daily basis. Pulls orders, files appropriate documents into case files, distributes files to staff and/or judges as requested, orders files, creates duplicate files as needed and distributes daily docket.
Answers the telephone; provides accurate information to callers and/or forwards calls to appropriate personnel; takes messages as needed.
Assists customers; receives and responds to inquiries and requests for assistance from customers, other County departments, agencies and the public.
Prepares, types, processes, copies, files and/or transmits various documents, which may include judgments, court orders, other civil / criminal records, reports, logs, lists, correspondence, memos, etc.
Performs other routine clerical work, including but not limited to copying and filing documents, sending and receiving faxes, assembling materials, etc.
Attends staff and County meetings as required.
Attends training, meetings, seminars and/or workshops to enhance job knowledge and skills.

DATA INVOLVEMENT:
Requires summarizing, tabulating or formatting data or information in accordance with a prescribed schema or plan to facilitate the identification and extraction of useful information.
PEOPLE INVOLVEMENT:
Requires speaking or signaling to people to convey or exchange information of a general nature.
INVOLVEMENT WITH THINGS:
Requires handling or using machines, tools or equipment requiring brief instruction or experience, such as computers for data entry, fax machines, copiers, telephones or similar equipment; may service office machines, including adding paper and changing toner. Must be capable of accurately using computers and software programs designed for the court system.
COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS
REASONING REQUIREMENTS:
Requires performing semi-routine work following procedures with frequent problems. Must deal effectively with unpleasant clients and situations on a daily basis.
MATHEMATICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requires performing addition and subtraction, multiplication and division and/or calculating ratios, rates and percents.
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:
Requires reading technical instructions, procedures, manuals and charts to solve practical problems; composing routine reports and specialized reports, forms and business letters with proper format; speaking compound sentences using normal grammar and word form.
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requires doing clerical, manual or technical tasks prescribed by standard practices but which may require computation, the use of several procedures, and the use of independent judgments with obvious choices; requires normal attention for accurate results.
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE PREPARATION
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL PREPARATION:
Requires high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by formal training, special courses or self-education that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education or specialized advanced training in data processing, clerical studies or a closely related field.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
Must possess or be able to obtain Notary Public certification.
Must possess a valid state driver’s license.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Requires over one year and up to and including two years of office experience.
AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT REQUIREMENTS
PHYSICAL AND DEXTERITY REQUIREMENTS:
Requires sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time, exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis, and routine keyboard operations. Must be able to lift 50 pounds and climb step stools/ladders daily.
ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS:
The job risks exposure to no known environmental hazards.
SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing and speaking abilities, color perception.

Responsible for guiding others, requiring a few decisions affecting a few co-workers; works in a stable environment with clear and uncomplicated written/oral instructions but with some variations from the routine.

Compensation Range: $17.00 – $27.18
