This is a highly responsible position in the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet. The employee is expected to perform all duties to the best of their ability, act in a responsible manner at all times, demonstrate leadership qualities, and treat all staff, youth, and persons with respect. This is a demanding position that requires maturity, reliability, and self-discipline. Career growth and advancement are encouraged through training and mentoring opportunities.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Provides professional support to the Division Director of Transportation staff in the review, development and implementation of Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) activities.
Develops, implements, and maintains various complex projects regarding classification, placement and transportation of DJJ youth. Interprets and applies rules, regulations, and policies and procedures to research and compile various reports. Prepares monthly and quarterly reports. Drafts correspondence and various actions for review and direction. Responds to inquiries from state agencies, the public and families of youth.
Serves as records custodian and evaluation liaison for division staff. Prepares personnel actions and maintains personnel files. Assists in the hiring process including scheduling applicants for interviews, preparing packets for interviewees and interview panel and maintaining interview records. Assists in evaluation preparation and maintains related files.
Maintains time and attendance records on assigned staff; reviews timesheets, enters data, audits leave maintenance, maintains files and reviews edits. Maintains Fleet records and maintenance schedules for Transportation Division.
Updates and maintains manuals, files, databases and logs as assigned; arranges DJJ training for division staff; attends meetings, keeps minutes and attendance for staff meetings. Maintains and enters training hours for division. Archives division files, for staff and youth, in accordance with the retention schedule and maintains related files.
Distributes incoming mail. Assists with scheduling appointments or meetings and makes travel arrangements. Attends meetings and trainings as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor’s degree.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Three years of professional, administrative, or business experience.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Additional education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Additional administrative, business, research, and/or clerical experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Working Conditions
Incumbents working in this job title primarily perform duties in an office setting.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
