Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The School of Nursing (SON), within the College of Health and Human Services, has an outstanding legacy of serving the people of southeastern N.C. through education, scholarship and service. The SON is dedicated to excellence in the development of healthcare professionals through in-depth education, professional partnerships, applied research, regional engagement and community outreach and impact.

The SON is located in McNeill Hall, a state-of-the-art facility that includes offices, classrooms, a large lecture hall, computer laboratories, student success areas and learning commons, and the Simulation Learning Center. The Simulation Learning Center uses high, medium and low fidelity human patient simulators as a teaching and learning tool for nursing education. Through the use of simulation, we strive to create a realistic environment and a powerful learning experience that promotes cognitive, affective, physical and social development of the student as well as incorporating inter-professional collaborative experiences for students across the degree programs in the College.

The SON offers the following degree programs:

Over 2,500 undergraduate and nearly 600 graduate students are enrolled in programs within the SON. Currently, the SON has 80 full-time faculty. The SON’s online bachelor’s degree in nursing program is ranked 7th among 2019’s “Best Online BSN Degrees” by US News and World Report.

Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Administrative Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of the School of Nursing (SON) by managing purchasing, coordinating contracts, and overseeing compliance. This position also supports travel arrangements, event planning, and faculty onboarding, contributing significantly to the efficiency and effectiveness of the SON’s administrative functions. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Purchasing and Contract Coordination: Manages purchasing requests and coordinates contracts with vendors for the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) and School of Nursing (SON).
Travel and Expense Management: Coordinates travel and submits expense forms for the SON leadership team, faculty, and students.
Compliance and Reporting: Tracks clinical faculty compliance, prepares mandated compliance reports, and creates badge reports for nursing students.
Event and Meeting Support: Collaborates on SON events, takes minutes for Faculty Council meetings, and assists with onboarding and faculty interviews.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Graduation from high school and one year of related office experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Diplomas or degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred education, professional skills and experience
Experience in project management, purchasing and establishing new vendors, and working with clinical compliance databases such as Certify and MyRecord Tracker.
Previous compliance experience in a health profession field.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office software (to include Excel) and ability to learn and use institutional software systems such as DocuSign and Chrome River.
