Join One of North Carolina’s Leading Recovery Initiatives by Supporting Hurricane Helene Recovery in Western North Carolina. The North Carolina Department of Commerce’s newly established Division of Community Revitalization (DCR) plays a central role in rebuilding homes and revitalizing the economy in communities affected by Hurricane Helene across Western North Carolina.
DCR is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Executive Assistant I to support our executive leadership team. This position provides advanced administrative and operational support critical to advancing the Division’s mission of restoring and strengthening impacted communities.
The executive assistant role requires professionalism, adaptability, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. It offers a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects that promote long-term community recovery and resilience.
Key Responsibilities May Include:
Providing high-level administrative support, including scheduling, travel coordination, and confidential communications.
Serving as a liaison to internal teams, external partners, and public stakeholders.
Managing office operations such as budgeting, procurement, HR documentation, and logistics.
Interpreting and applying NC state government administrative policies and procedures.
Support project planning, event coordination, and preparation of reports and data for leadership.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
Demonstrated experience providing executive-level administrative support.
Demonstrated experience preparing, formatting, and editing formal documents, such as contracts, reports, and correspondence.
Demonstrated experienced in managing logistics for in-person and virtual meetings, including venue coordination, agenda development, material distribution, and technical setup.
Demonstrated experience of state government administrative procedures, including procurement, document retention, expense reimbursement, and motor fleet policies.
Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business administration or a related discipline from an appropriately accredited institution; or
Associate’s degree in secretarial science, business administration, or a related discipline from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience; or
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

About the Division of Community Revitalization:
The new Division of Community Revitalization (DCR) was established by Governor Josh Stein’s Executive Order No. 3, directing the division to oversee the rebuilding of homes destroyed or damaged by Hurricane Helene and to coordinate and lead efforts to revitalize the economy of western North Carolina.
