General Position Overview:
Supports the City Manager with administrative and advanced office management skills. The successful candidate will be extremely productive, professional, and able to handle multiple tasks with high levels of customer service, organization, and accuracy. The City Clerk must have a demonstrated ability to balance unplanned interruptions while maintaining priorities throughout the day.

The City Clerk attends all formal meetings of the City Council, including regular hearings, committee meetings, and work sessions; takes and transcribes minutes at the meetings for permanent record; prepares, publishes, and indexes minutes; prepares and distributes agendas, memoranda, as well as meeting minutes; prepares and publicizes council meetings, public hearings, and other activities following applicable state, local, and federal law. In this role, the Clerk must be meticulous in assisting with City ordinances, resolutions, petitions, and other documents for Council’s consideration. The City Clerk also coordinates with the City Manager, department heads, and Council before the monthly meetings. Establishes and maintains complex filing systems and ensures compliance with State Archives, Local, State, and Federal mandates. Types and proofs statistical reports, inputs data into multiple databases, prepares correspondence, and creates PowerPoint presentations. Receives, assesses, and subsequently discloses information in response to the City under the FOIA (Freedom of Information Act), ensuring that requests are managed by federal/state law.

Responsible for the implementation and maintenance of the conference room calendar, council chambers calendar, council car calendar, city hall office supply orders, city hall breakroom maintenance, reception, customer service, and closing city hall responsibilities; liaison for communication for city hall administrative support, as needed. Performs receptionist duties for City Hall.

Minimum Requirements, Qualifications, and Experience:
Must be able to handle multiple tasks, including answering a multi-line phone system, and be comfortable using multiple computer programs simultaneously; demonstrate a high level of customer service and detail orientation to include extreme organization and time management skills.
Must possess strong written and oral communication skills and can communicate effectively across diverse populations.
Must possess a high level of confidentiality.
Must be able to attain municipal clerk training certification through MASC as well as become a Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) within a designated timeframe.
Associate degree supplemented by (2) two to (4) four years of high-level administrative support, election supervision, or records management in a municipal setting preferred; or equivalent combination of experience and education that meets or exceeds minimum requirements.
Valid SC driver’s license

Salary Exempt – $57,490 – $64,917 Annually
Dependent on experience, education, and credentials

Normal working hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5 pm, but must have flexibility to attend scheduled, after-hours City Council meetings.
