Job Description

The Apex Graduate Assistant works closely with the Director of Apex and primarily with first-year students to ensure a successful transition to college and to educate them about university-wide expectations and resources. Primary responsibilities include providing comprehensive, regular, and proactive academic and transitional support through developmentally appropriate experiences that holistically support the student in all aspects of their lives – academic, personal, and professional. The Graduate Student assists with the delivery of activities and programs for first-year students that promote a sense of “belonging” and “connection” to their peers, to Mount St. Mary’s University, and to the community and also assists with the delivery of academic programs.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Oversees and provides leadership to Apex Peer Leaders (PLs) – desk hours, effective communication with peer leaders, events, and weekly interaction with PLs. Active participant/leader at PL meetings.

Assists with planning and organizing Apex events

Create and post flyers, promotional ads for Apex and TAS

Assists with notetaking at Apex meetings

Assists with Apex Peer Leader trainings

Assists with First-Generation Student planning and programing

Assists with the delivery of activities and programs for Apex peer leaders

Assists with the delivery of activities and programs for first-year students

Connect first-year students to campus resources

Work with Apex to establish strategic, effective partnerships and work collaboratively with campus colleagues to support student success and retention initiatives

Confidentiality (retention data from Registrar’s Office).

Participate in university events related to Apex involvement (Orientation, Admissions events)

Responsible for Apex social media and writing social media data reports

Assists Apex Director with workshops via zoom

Job Requirements: Education, Experience and Skills:

Must be accepted into a graduate program at Mount St. Mary’s University.

Bachelor’s Degree Required

Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products: Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Salary/Hours/Benefits

A stipend of $6000 per academic year.

20 hours per week for 9 months (August – May)

Tuition Remission Benefits (2 courses in the fall and 2 courses in the spring).
