Role Overview
At Thousands of Years Media Sdn. Bhd. (ToYm), we are looking for a Head of Content & Licensing to lead the company’s content acquisition, licensing, and content partnership strategy.
The successful candidate will be responsible for sourcing quality content, negotiating licensing arrangements, developing content partnerships, identifying commercial content opportunities, and ensuring the company has strong, relevant, and valuable content to support audience engagement, platform growth, and business expansion.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop and lead the company’s overall content acquisition, licensing, and content partnership strategy.
• Source quality short dramas, films, series, digital content, and other suitable media content for the company’s projects and platforms.
• Identify content opportunities from Malaysia, China, Southeast Asia, and other relevant markets.
• Negotiate licensing terms, content rights, territories, duration, exclusivity, revenue-sharing, and commercial arrangements.
• Evaluate content quality, market suitability, audience appeal, commercial potential, and content ROI before acquisition.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with producers, studios, distributors, content owners, creators, agencies, and media companies.
• Identify exclusive content, original content, co-production, distribution, and partnership opportunities that can benefit the company.
• Work closely with Production, Creative, Marketing, Sales, Technology, and Operations teams to align content direction with business objectives.
• Support content planning including genre mix, language mix, release schedule, title strategy, and audience retention strategy.
• Monitor content performance including watch time, completion rate, engagement, user retention, content ROI, and title performance.
• Prepare content acquisition proposals, licensing summaries, content performance reports, and recommendations for management review.
• Ensure all content arrangements are properly documented, commercially clear, and aligned with company interests.
Requirements
• Minimum 6–8 years of experience in content acquisition, licensing, media, entertainment, streaming, film, drama, digital content, or content distribution.
• Strong understanding of content rights, licensing agreements, IP ownership, distribution rights, and commercial negotiation.
• Experience in short drama, OTT platforms, streaming platforms, film distribution, content partnerships, or digital entertainment is an advantage.
• Good network with producers, studios, distributors, content owners, agencies, or media companies is preferred.
• Strong content judgment with ability to identify marketable, engaging, and commercially valuable content.
• Able to balance creative quality, audience demand, business value, platform needs, and company strategy.
• Strong communication, negotiation, planning, coordination, and stakeholder management skills.
• Able to work across multiple projects, platforms, and business divisions within the company.
• Familiarity with AI tools for content research, market analysis, subtitle support, localization, and content evaluation is an advantage.
• Able to multitask and provide support for any tasks or projects assigned by the company as needed.
