Role Overview:

The department head (HOD) has the sole responsibility of running the academic programs of a department successfully. He/she has to follow the set rules and standards of the University in the delivery of the program. He/she reports to the Dean/ Director of the school. He/she has the following duties and responsibilities.

  1. To act as the administrative and academic head of the department in executing the teaching and learning aspects of the department.
  2. To take advice/sanction from the dean for implementation of academic, co-curricular and extracurricular activities.
  3. To assign duties to teaching and non-teaching staff of the department in consultation with the dean/director.
  4. To ensure allocation of workload (teaching load and practical load) to all faculty members and technical non-teaching staff with the help of the academic coordinator.
  5. To co-ordinate with the teaching and non-teaching staff of the department for smooth function of conduction of academic, co-curricular and extracurricular activities of the department.
  6. To present the department/program budget/requirement to the dean.
  7. To take the lesson plan from the faculty members and to ensure they follow the plan and syllabus is completed in the stipulated time.
  8. To ensure smooth conduct of examinations including paper setting, assessment of theory and lab.
  9. To ensure quality, maintenance and cleanliness of the department.
  10. To forward leave applications of the departmental colleagues.
  11. To motivate faculty towards research proposals to various research funding agencies.
  12. To encourage research and innovative programs in the department.
  13. To invite guest speakers for interaction and guidance to students.
  14. To facilitate faculty in the preparation and processing of self-appraisal of performance.
  15. To ensure that school/college equipment/facilities under the department's control are properly maintained and serviced as required.

Experience Required:

  • 15 – 20 yrs + preferred University / Industry experience.

Education:

  • Master’s Degree or Ph.D (Doctor of Philosophy) in Psychology.
  • Advance degree in relevant filed / Certification course.

Skills Required:

  • Strong academic credentials required, Teaching and Research Experience (Management or related discipline), and Patents.
  • Leadership and Management Skills, Curriculum development, Accreditation Knowledge, Industry Connection, Communication, Interpersonal Skills and Networking skills.
