LAB ASSISTANT – ANATOMIC PATHOLOGY
Performs all paperwork, technical and non-technical procedures required to process and submit specimens. Assigns specific computed generated identification numbers, checks for accuracy, and records all items processed. Forwards accessioned specimen to designated laboratory locations/benches; and locating and correcting any discrepancies. Learns and keeps familiar with lab procedures and location of stored specimens. Locates specimens and pulls from various departments as requested.
Perform equipment maintenance
Monitor and record required data on equipment as assigned
Performs quality control and confirms accuracy for accessioned cases received
Removal liquid and solid waste.
Perform bone marrow smear preparation
Prepare bulk fluids
Unload slides after completed runs
Completes additional work related assignments as required or requested by the department manager, senior technologist or group lead
Print and collate case worksheets and slides
File slides and paperwork
Assemble cases and documents
Distribute completed cases as assigned
Responsible for the knowledge and practice of safety SOP’s in the laboratory
Complete all required EHS training
Wear appropriate PPE as required
Comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, LC EHS policies / procedures and the requirements of accrediting organizations
Conduct work in a safe and environmentally responsible manner

This confidential information is supplied for the sole purpose of assisting the pathologist in making a diagnosis. Takes direction from the professional and medical staff.
Interfaces with other laboratory and operational departments for specimen processing and other cooperative efforts.
Maintains a pleasant, cooperative, and respectful relationship with co-workers and all staff.
High School diploma or GED equivalent with 1-2 years’ experience.
