Duties

The position is in the United States Attorney’s Office (“USAO”) located in Dallas, TX. If selected for this position, you will serve as USAO Grand Jury Coordinator. The work requires knowledge of rules and procedures of Grand Jury activities, and knowledge of clerical and administrative office skills and an ability to apply these skills to increase the effectiveness of the Grand Jury practices. Typical duties include:

Provide technical advice to other support staff regarding Grand Jury procedures and the processing requirements to present matters to the Grand Jury.

Provide verbal and written instructions to attorneys, support staff, and new law enforcement officers as to Grand Jury procedures.

Conduct research on Grand Jury procedures using the Grand Jury manual and other legal references.

Establish and maintain monthly calendars of Grand Jury activities.

Maintain logs related to the matters coming before the Grand Jury.

Review and prepare legal documents, for example, motions, draft orders, correspondence with the Court, and subpoenas.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

You must be a U.S. Citizen or National

Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation

You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable

If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.

You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.

Qualifications

GS-8:To be eligible at the GS-08 level, you must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in Federal service.

Specialized experienceis defined as performing legal support work relating to the examination, preparation, and processing of legal documents, assembling jury instructions, and compiling witness and exhibit lists, and using automated software to produce reports, documents, and information

To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. (A typing test may later be required.)
