Medical Records Specialist
The Medical Records Specialist processes releases of information and verifies HIPAA compliance in a medical setting. Able to process large amounts of information accurately and timely in an electronic record environment.
Location: This position is based out of Life Works NW’s Sylvan site.
Pay/Benefits: $23.16 starting hourly pay, plus pro-rated benefits. This is a part-time position.
Responsibilities:
Process incoming medical record requests, create records release documentation, print records, coordinate transmission, and log transactions.
Scan documents accurately and in a timely manner.
Respond to and provide information for external/internal record requests or inquiries.
Provide clinical support such as sending no contact letters.
Merge client numbers as needed.
Perform special data entry projects mainly for audit purposes.
Backup Administrative Assistant 2 duties when requested.
Complete daily data entry, update, correct, and transfer information in the electronic health record as needed.
Request and process invoices for payment of records.
Complete tasks accurately within defined time frames with minimal supervision.
Assist colleagues as needed and accept additional tasks willingly.
Maintain attendance standards per department policy for unscheduled absences.
Monitor email and voicemail throughout the day and respond accordingly.
Increase cultural sensitivity, awareness, and competency continually.
Participate in regular team and individual meetings, including trainings and clinical meetings.
Ensure the confidentiality and security of medical records.
Qualifications:
High school diploma/GED or equivalent.
Medical Record Technology training preferred; accredited record training in progress or completed, with 2 years of experience working with medical records.
Understanding of HIPAA requirements related to medical records.
Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and proprietary software; ability to keyboard 25 wpm and use 10-Key.
Effective communication skills and ability to work cooperatively in a diverse environment.
Ability to perform essential functions safely without creating a threat to self or others.
