Job Purpose
The Network Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and support of the organization’s network infrastructure to ensure reliable, secure, and efficient connectivity. This role ensures optimal network performance, assists in troubleshooting and resolving network issues, and supports the implementation of new network technologies to meet the operational and business needs of the organization.
Key Accountabilities
- Install, configure, and maintain network devices, including routers, switches, and wireless access points.
- Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure optimal uptime and reliability.
- Perform routine network maintenance, including software/firmware updates, patch management, and preventive checks.
- Assist in the deployment and integration of new network infrastructure and technologies.
- Respond to network-related incidents and service requests promptly, escalating unresolved issues to higherlevel support as necessary. This may include providing support during weekends, after office hours, and on public holidays, supporting other rail lines and support server, data center, electronic access control matters on ad hoc basis.
- Maintain accurate records of network assets, configurations, and changes.
- Support network security measures, including access controls, and vulnerability monitoring.
- Assist in preparing technical documentation, network diagrams, and reports for management and audits.
- Ensure compliance with IT policies, standards, and procedures, including backup and recovery processes.
- Provide support for end-users experiencing network connectivity or performance issues.
- Participate in IT projects, including upgrades, expansions, and system migrations.
- Assist in testing, evaluating, and recommending new network hardware or software solutions.
- Support disaster recovery and business continuity planning related to network systems.
- Perform any other network-related duties as assigned by the Head of Unit.
Qualifications, Skills & Knowledge
- Minimum Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Networking, or related field.
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or equivalent networking certification.
- CompTIA Network+ or other relevant networking certifications.
- Minimum one (1) years of relevant work experience in network administration, support, or operations for entry level roles.
- Strong knowledge and experience in network installation, configuration, monitoring, security, and LAN/WAN management, with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues effectively, provide IT support, maintain technical documentation, manage IT assets and inventory, and communicate efficiently with stakeholders and end users.
- Knowledge of networking technologies, network devices, security controls, network management tools, virtualization, data centre networking, structured cabling, and IT service desk systems.
