Position Title:
HR Front Office Technician (Part – Time)
Job Description:
The Salt Lake City Human Resources team is hiring two part-time Front Desk Technicians to serve as the welcoming face of our department. In this highly visible and customer-focused role, you’ll assist visitors, support new employee onboarding, and provide essential administrative help across a variety of HR programs.
About the Role:
Working under general guidance, this position plays a vital role in the daily operations of the HR team. Key responsibilities include:
Greeting and assisting employees, new hires, and the public.
Collecting and processing new hire documentation, including data entry into Workday and the Utah Retirement System.
Maintaining accurate, confidential personnel records.
Responding to inquiries about HR policies and procedures.
Answering phones, verifying employment, and managing walk-in traffic.
Providing administrative support to HR management and staff.
Assisting with GRAMA requests and tuition reimbursement processes.
Coordinating logistics for meetings, commissions, and internal events.
Notarizing documents as needed.
This is a fast-paced, service-oriented role that requires attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a collaborative mindset.
About the Ideal Candidate:
We’re looking for two friendly, professional individuals with at least two years of relevant experience, including:
Customer service
Records management
Data entry and information retrieval
Proficiency with personal computers and office software
Experience onboarding employees and working within Workday or other HRIS platforms is highly desirable. Knowledge of HR practices, procedures, and confidentiality standards is a strong plus.
Schedule:
This is an in-person position requiring 20 to 29 hours per week.
Our office hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with primary coverage needed on Mondays and Fridays. We are happy to discuss flexible scheduling.
Work location: HR Office, Plaza 349 (349 S. 200 E., Salt Lake City, UT)
Pay Range:
$22 – $25/hour, depending on selected candidate’s qualifications .

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school graduation or equivalent, plus two years’ work experience in a related technical position. Experience and training must include data entry and retrieval from a computer terminal and the use of personal computers to do word processing and/or spreadsheets.
Ability to type 40 wpm net and/or proficiency in the use of computers for filing system, word processing and/or spreadsheets, depending on departmental requirements. Preference will be given to candidates whose computer type speed is 40 wpm or greater and who have demonstrated expertise with Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.
Ability to operate various standard office equipment and other specified technical equipment.
Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and comply with established policy and procedures. Working knowledge of specialized field stipulated by division.
Ability to relate with persons from diverse socio-economic and racial/ethnic backgrounds.
Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
Ability and means to travel between office and other worksites or locations when necessary to collect or distribute information.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Directly related Human Resources experience.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Light physical effort and usually comfortable working positions. May be exposed to discomforts associated with constant monitoring of computer video display screens.
Intermittent exposure to stress as a result of human behavior and various responsibilities.
