The expected schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00AM to 5:00PM. A flexible and hybrid schedule is not an option for this position.

Who we are:
Created by the Legislature in 1949, the Washington State Human Rights Commission (WSHRC) is responsible for administering and enforcing the Washington Law Against Discrimination (WLAD). The mission is to eliminate and prevent discrimination in Washington State through the fair application of the law, efficient use of resources, and establishment of productive partnerships in the community.

The Commission is made up of five members appointed by the Governor, who appoint an Executive Director. The Executive Director appoints investigative staff, and other employees as needed to conduct the day-to-day operations of the agency. The Commissioners meet monthly and provide policy direction, adopt regulations, vote to grant or deny requests for reconsideration of previously issued investigative findings, and conduct outreach in their geographical communities.

What you will be doing:

You will provide office support for daily operations and will serve as an in-office receptionist for the agency. You will assist walk-in customers, answer calls and return voicemails, open and date-stamp incoming mail including sorting and routing mail to the appropriate party, prepare outgoing mail, and provide basic office assistance that involves creating case file inserts, photocopying records, filing, and entering and/or retrieving information from the agency’s database system.

Duties

Some of what you’ll enjoy doing includes:

Greet walk-in customers and verify what type of assistance is needed. This may involve requesting assistance from another staff member.

Answer phones to answer routine questions regarding the agency’s jurisdictional authority, but will refer callers to the appropriate staff member when required.

Maintain front desk area by restocking complaint questionnaires, intake forms, and other materials when needed.

Open and date-stamp incoming mail; sort and route mail to the appropriate party; prepare outgoing mail; and maintain mailing logs.

Review incoming faxes, log the record, and forward to the appropriate party.

Create case file inserts for investigative files.

Copy records or scans records to a digital format.

In-office filing.

Entering and/or retrieving information from the agency’s database system.

Qualifications

There may be limited travel

REQUIRED:

High school diploma or GED equivalent

AND

Basic computer experience, including data entry

AND

Basic knowledge of modern office practices, methods, and procedures

Possess basic arithmetic

Able to understand and follow basic instructions accurately

Able to rough sort alphabetize
