QUESTIONS

The City of Pleasanton is seeking anOffice Assistantto perform a diverse range of duties. Candidates for this position are expected to possess sufficient knowledge of clerical methods to excel in the performance of their responsibilities. The role involves drafting, formatting, typing, and proofing various materials such as letters, memoranda, and reports. Additionally, the Office Assistant acts as a cashier, maintains simple accounting records, and handles tasks like sorting, coding, posting, and filing materials. Accuracy checks on reports, records, and data are essential, along with extracting, transferring, and summarizing information. This position will assist in the Community Development Department.

Typical Duties

Opens and distributes mail, answers telephones, acts as receptionist, provides information, gives directions.

Serves as cashier and maintains simple accounting records.

Files, maintains, and retrieves records.

Maintains stock of office supplies and orders new supplies when needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

High school graduation or GED equivalent.

Experience:

One year of general clerical experience and competency in word processing software.

Knowledge of:

Office terminology.

Procedures.

Equipment.

Proper techniques in operation of commonly used office equipment.

Business arithmetic.

Skill to:

Type accurately 45 wpm.

Perform responsible clerical work under general supervision.

Spell and use correct English.

Maintain clerical records and prepare reports.

Meet the public with tact and courtesy.

Read and understand and interpret written materials.

Use good judgment in choosing among available alternatives.

Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.

Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
