Base pay range

$41,887.00/yr – $69,709.00/yr

Division and Responsibilities

The Housing Emergency Referral Operations Division (HERO) is the sole 24/7 DHS organizational unit that identifies and secures shelter for families and single adults applying for emergency housing assistance. HERO consists of seven sections:
Placement, Vacancy Control for Families with Children and Single Adults, Data & Systems, Strategic Initiatives and Transfers, Care Day Certification, Portfolio Management, and the Serious Incident Unit.

The selected candidates will report directly to HERO shift supervisors. Responsibilities include performing community functions, matching families at Intake sites for conditional and overnight placements to available shelter units using CARES automated reports and communication with shelter liaisons and Intake staff, updating CARES, processing exits, updating family compositions, reconciling facilities in CARES, updating unit status, and managing transfer and vacancy control tasks to ensure accurate lodging and vacancies.

Responsibilities

Connect with agencies to facilitate cooperation, maintain records, and coordinate activities.

Assess families’ needs to match them with suitable shelter vacancies.

Coordinate referrals, arrivals, and transportation for families across the five boroughs.

Prepare reports, vacancy forms, and ensure accurate record-keeping from Intake Centers and facilities.

Analyze and resolve issues related to placements, transfers, and vacancies.

Complete Placement Verification Sheets (PVC) following protocol.

Work in shifts to provide 24/7 coverage; occasional holdovers may be required.

Ensure all processed families receive a placement each day.

4PM – 12AM, Sunday to Thursday (RDOs: Friday & Saturday)

8AM – 4PM, Tuesday to Saturday (RDOs: Sunday & Monday)

4PM – 12AM, Tuesday to Saturday (RDOs: Sunday & Monday)

9PM – 5AM, Tuesday to Saturday (RDOs: Sunday & Monday)

9AM – 5PM, Monday to Friday (RDOs: Saturday & Sunday)

4PM – 12AM, Friday to Thursday (RDOs: Wednesday & Thursday)

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduation or equivalent plus three years of community work or related activities; or

Equivalent education and/or experience.
