A Paralegal II performs, but is not limited to the following duties:
Perform legal research using a basic knowledge of application of a body of law, regulations, precedents, and practices covering one or more recurring types of legal actions, performs research, evaluation, and analysis of a variety of routine legal topics.
Organizes and prepares research material and determines information that is pertinent to the case.
Performs basic legal analysis of routine requests for information.
Prepares indices of legal and administrative material.
Writes drafts of initial legal and administrative briefs, motions, opposition to defense motions, and correspondence for AUSA review.
Drafts legal documents that identify the legal or factual issues in the case, locate precedents and develop legal supportable conclusions.
Reviews, proofreads, and edits legal documents.
Prepares and organizes documentation and evidence for discovery and use at trial.
Maintains evidence such as paper documents, PDF files, image files, audio files, video files, bank records, forensic reports, and other file types.
Provides litigation assistance to attorneys in trial preparation and courtroom presentations.
Participates in pre-trial witness conferences.
Prepares and organizes trial exhibits, documents, memoranda, reports and correspondence relating to cases for review by AUSAs.
Compiles case files for AUSAs and coordinates with appropriate points of contact to obtain copies of all documentation pertinent to case or claim.
A Paralegal II must meet the following qualifications:
A High School Diploma, or equivalent (an undergraduate degree is preferred);
At least 2-years of experience; trial experience very helpful (Experience as Legal Secretary or Paralegal);
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, word processing, document management, business administration, and data entry;
Proficiency with office technology, including but not limited to computers, fax machines, and copier machines;
Proficiency in organizational skills and the ability to multitask assignments;
Ability to obtain Top Secret level clearance.
This position requires U.S. Citizenship and a 7 (or 10) year minimum background investigation.
