Job Responsibilities

This position will be tasked with performing a variety of complex administrative and office management duties for the Director of the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

Job Duties Include:
Providing a broad range of administrative and support services to ensure efficient and professional office/department management, including:
Screening incoming calls and visitors for the Director.
Scheduling meetings and maintaining meeting files.
Responding to invitations and arranging travel for the Director.
Serving as first point of contact for visitors to the Director’s Office.
Providing monthly report to the DNR Board of major activities by the Director.
Maintaining the Director’s daily calendar, scheduling appointments and meetings.
Keeping Director apprised of all pertinent issues, appointments and meetings.
Composing routine correspondence on complex matters.
Screening questions and issues to determine appropriate division or person needing to respond.
Screening and disseminating daily incoming correspondence, determining proper action to be taken in coordination with the Chief of Staff.
Assisting in fiscal, personnel, purchasing, statistical and other necessary administrative functions for the Director and Executive Office.
Assisting the Director and Executive Office in the timely completion of performance evaluations for employees under the Director’s supervision.
Maintaining confidentiality on all matters of concern.
Facilitating and coordinating activities between the Director’s Office and the Chief of Staff’s Office insuring that the appropriate level of communication is maintained on all matters impacting the agency.
Serving as an administrative liaison between the Director, the Deputy Directors and Division staff, Executive Office staff, State/Federal legislative members and staff, state agencies, private and public organizations, the general public, and the Governor’s Office, representing the agency knowledgeably.
Maintaining an overall working knowledge of the Department, its functions and procedures for purchasing, budgets, financial reports, Board and Personnel policies.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A bachelor’s degree and experience in public administration, business administration planning or public relations.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong computer, organizational, and communication skills, both verbally and in writing; proficient in letter composition; demonstrated ability to effectively interact with a wide variety of people at all levels including the Department, Congress, State Legislature, the general public, private industry and conservation organizations; knowledge of practices in planning, budgeting, regulations and policies;
