The North Carolina State Laboratory of Public Health (NCSLPH) provides a multifaceted array of services including Laboratory Testing, Training/Consultation and Certification. The NCSLPH provides more than 125 clinical laboratory tests and more than 65 environmental laboratory tests to the public and private medical health care system in North Carolina. In addition to performing complex laboratory analyses and examinations, the NCSLPH is a non-profit distributor of pharmaceutical products, medical/laboratory supplies, and specimen mailers. Additionally, NCSLPH provides training and consultation for local health departments, hospitals, commercial laboratories, private health care professionals, community-based organizations and state and regional staff from the Division of Public Health and other state and regional agencies; publishes a newsletter; records and bills Medicaid -related procedures for revenue collection in financial support of NCSLPH operations; provides laboratory consultation and training courses; and provides proficiency testing programs.
The Pre-Analytical Services Unit of the North Carolina State Laboratory of Public Health is currently accepting applications for Administrative Specialist I. The Virology-Serology section of the Pre-Analytical Services Unit provides support for programs involved with a variety of bacterial and viral pathogens of public health significance. The primary purpose of this position is to provide data entry and data management support for HIV/HCV, Rubella, Hepatitis, Chlamydia/Gonorrhea, and Syphilis testing. As a team Lead this position is responsible for the pre- and post- analytical functions for HIV/HCV, Rubella, Hepatitis, Chlamydia/Gonorrhea, and Syphilis testing activities performed by the Virology/Serology Unit. As the laboratory transitions from paper-based test orders to Electronic Test Order and Reporting (ETOR) through the Lab Web Portal (LWP), this position will be a key role in understanding and providing support to submitters and stakeholders in the use of the LWP. In addition, the person in this position will be responsible for the following duties: sorting and mailing test reports, records management of requisitions and maintaining numerical and chronological files. This position reports to the Pre-Analytical Administrative Supervisor. Candidates must possess strong communication and customer service skills to support the many health providers that utilize the services of the Laboratory via verbal or written communication. Strong computer skills are also relevant to this position.
This position is responsible for the following duties:
Assisting in training clerical staff on new and updated policies and procedures
Distributing work to clerical staff
Entering patient demographic information on test requisition forms into the Laboratory Information Management
System (LIMS) and LWP
Reviewing and correcting records for completion and accuracy as part of the quality management system
Serving as point of contact to local health departments and laboratory testing personnel regarding testing and
reporting services.
Assisting direct supervisor with personnel management
Please Note: This position may be expected to work on an occasional Saturday or state holiday to maintain turn-around times for reporting test results.
