The Payroll Supervisor will oversee and supervise the agency’s payroll functions, ensuring that pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices. The Payroll Supervisor will train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSThe requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATIONand/orEXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field required. Four years of experience in payroll processing required with two years in a supervisory or management role preferred. Experience in a nonprofit organization is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Intermediate to Advanced MS Office Skills, particularly Excel. Familiarity and experience with payroll and HRIS. Proficiencies in math calculations, and analysis of reports. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Understands tax reporting obligations and experience with assuring payroll taxes are filed in a timely and accurate manner.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Driver qualification status not required for this position.

Registration with the Child Care Division in the Central Background Registry.

Candidate must pass a comprehensive MWVCAA background screening prior to employment.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThis job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Employee will also perform other reasonably related business duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and other management as required.

Oversees procedures and processes and manages inquiries and requests related to preparation and distribution of payroll.

Maintains payroll calendar, ensuring timely payment and reporting of payroll withholdings and pay.

Processes payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.

Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.

Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.

Acts as backup to payroll specialists as needed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversees the daily workflow of the Payroll function, including training, monitoring, accuracy, and communications.

Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.

Handles discipline of employees in accordance with agency policy.

Occasional lifting up to 20 pounds; able to traverse the office and building space to meet with others. Use of office equipment such as calculators, computer, printers, and phone.
