The Heart and Hand House, Inc., is a non-profit mission project affiliated with the United Methodist Church. We exist because of the clear Christian mandate to minister to the physical, mental, spiritual and emotional needs of in-crisis, low-income people of Barbour County, West Virginia.
We are seeking an Executive Director aligned with our ministry who possesses a faith-based calling for helping others with a passion for leading a team to fulfill the ministry’s mission.
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for Heart and Hand House, Inc. staff, programs, expansion, and execution of its mission. He or she will initially develop deep knowledge of field, core programs, operations, and business plans.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
● Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board all information necessary for the Board to make informed decisions. This includes working with the Board to create an annual budget for all programs.
● Develop resources (i.e. fundraising, grant procurement/management, etc.) sufficient to ensure the financial health of the organization and ensure compliance with all general accounting procedures.
● Responsible for leadership and management of staff.
● Prepares and maintains all necessary documentation to maintain the organization’s nonprofit status, as well as maintains compliance with all programs that support the organization and its mission.
ORGANIZATION MISSION & STRATEGY
● Demonstrates servant leadership with an articulated call of service to the ministry, families, and staff of Heart and Hand House, Inc., with the ability to lead the agency to fulfill its mission statement.
● Responsible for working with the Board of Directors to develop a strategic plan to ensure that the Organization can successfully fulfill its mission in the future.
● Must acquire a full understanding of the ministry’s relationship with the WV Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, as defined in the Agreement of Affiliation, and work collaboratively with the Board of Global Ministries, as well as other faith groups and civic/governmental agencies to carry out the agency mission.
ORGANIZATION OPERATIONS
● Ensure effective systems to track progress, and regularly evaluate program components, to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the Board, funders, and other constituents.
● Oversee marketing and other communications efforts.
● Delegate responsibilities appropriately.
● Maintain and enforce confidentiality throughout the organization for all clients, staff, volunteers, and donors.
● Develop, review, and update policies and procedures for Board approval and ensure policy compliance throughout the organization.
● Other duties as needed and/or requested by the Board.
QUALIFICATIONS:
● The Executive Director should have proven leadership, coaching, and relationship management experience and must be thoroughly committed to the Heart and Hand House, Inc., mission.
Specific Requirements include:
● A bachelor’s or master’s degree (or experience equivalent) in business, accounting, administration, management or operations related fields.
● At least (3) three years of senior management experience with a track record of effectively leading an organization and staff.
● Prior experience in financial management preferred.
● Prior experience procuring and managing grants preferred.
● Prior experience in a non-profit organization preferred.
● Technologically proficient.
● Previous experience working with a Board of Directors preferred.
● Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage stakeholders.
● Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills.
● Action-oriented, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning.
● Passion, idealism, integrity, honesty, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
● Job may frequently require the employee to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
● Job may frequently require the employee to move about inside of the office to access file cabinets, office equipment, et.
● Job requires the employee to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer for extended periods of time.
● Job may frequently require the employee to ascend and descend stairs.
● Job requires the employee to effectively exchange accurate information when communicating with others.
● Job requires the employee to distinguish and discern any written correspondence.
● Job may occasionally require the employee to lift 40 pounds
● Job may occasionally require the employee to drive agency vehicle(s) and therefore a valid, non-restricted West Virginia driver’s license and driving record free of traffic related convictions with the previous (5) years is required.

● Salary is commensurate on experience and skills.

● The general full-time benefit package currently provides a monthly stipend toward employee purchased health insurance, and employer match of 3% toward retirement pension, up to $50 per month toward supplemental insurance and 1-week of paid time off, which increases with time of service.
● Hours of Operation are Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm (lunch 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm)
