Position Information

Secretary II (SR-14)
$3,730/month
A Secretary II provides secretarial services to a program administrator or to a top echelon executive at the City policy level; and performs other related duties as required.

Current Vacancy Information:
There is one (1) vacancy with the Department of Parks and Recreation, Division of Urban Forestry, located in Honolulu.

This position provides secretarial services and general assistance to the Director of Botanical Gardens along with branch-level secretarial and office management services for the Honolulu Botanical Garden (HBG). Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Managing workload by anticipating branch needs and delegating and assigning work to subordinates, with an understanding of the policies and procedures of the branch, division, and department.
Supervising the cashier clerk and senior clerk positions and managing a cashiering and garden reception area.
Frequently working with volunteers such as tour guides, information booth volunteers, special event planning, and more.

Special Working Conditions: Required to work after hours, on weekends, or holidays to provide coverage in the absence of cashiers, and for special events and emergencies. Will serve as a Disaster Response Worker during declared emergencies.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience that demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Three years of secretarial, stenographic or substantive clerical experience.

Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of office practices and procedures; basic principles and capabilities of word processors and computers; filing methods and systems; grammar, spelling and word usage; use of standard office equipment; and the ability to type/input information accurately; understand and effectively use word processing and other software applications; understand and interpret laws, ordinances, rules and regulations; summarize and brief materials; give and follow oral and written instructions; and deal tactfully and effectively with employees and the public.
