Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Receptionist/Optometric Technician to join our team. This vital role combines front desk responsibilities with clinical support, ensuring a seamless patient experience from check-in to examination. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, technical proficiency in ophthalmic procedures, and a passion for delivering exceptional patient care.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly, verify insurance information, and manage appointment scheduling using electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Obtain and record vital signs such as blood pressure and pulse, preparing patients for their examinations.
- Assist with ophthalmic patient examinations by performing tests including tonometry (measuring intraocular pressure) and A-scan biometry (ocular measurements).
- Operate medical equipment safely and accurately, including ophthalmic diagnostic imaging devices and eye refraction tools.
- Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and clinical confidentiality policies to protect patient information.
- Support the clinical team with aseptic techniques during procedures to ensure patient safety and infection control.
- Manage medical records accurately, ensuring proper documentation of exam findings, diagnoses, and treatment plans.
- Provide excellent patient service by addressing inquiries, explaining procedures, and ensuring a positive experience throughout their visit.
Skills
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and maintaining patient confidentiality in all interactions.
- Experience with intake procedures, vital signs collection, and ophthalmic diagnostic testing such as tonometry and A-scan measurements.
- Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) management systems like Epic or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with ophthalmology-specific equipment including ophthalmic imaging devices and refraction instruments.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology related to eye health and anatomy.
- Previous medical office experience with a focus on patient service, clinical procedures, or optical retail sales is highly desirable.
- Ability to operate medical equipment accurately while adhering to aseptic techniques for infection control.
