Office Manager
Madison Presbyterian Church in Madison, VA is seeking an Office Manager with a great personality and excellent skills to run the office Monday through Thursday from 8am to 1pm.
Soft skills include hospitality, phone, prompt response to requests by email, phone, or in person, ability to maintain confidentiality.
Hard skills include preparing bank deposits, preparing checks, retrieving the mail from the Post Office, maintaining church database, preparing monthly accounting statements, updating Facebook and Website, assisting the pastor with letters, copying, reminders – and general office duties.
Creative skills needed for bulletins, letters. Will lay out a monthly newsletter with input from the lay leaders of the church and the pastor. Must be excellent in the use of Excel, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Publisher. Position reports to the Pastor and is reviewed annually by the Personnel Committee. There will be an initial 90 day trial period.
Benefits include Paid Time off via an “hour bank” of 68 hours a year (3 weeks) which the employee may use for vacation, sick leave, or personal days. PTO accrues at 6 hours a month and may carry over 20 hours per year. The employee may also flex time due to illness. Additionally the employee will receive paid holidays off including New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Veterans’ Day, and Christmas Day.
Requirements:
High school diploma or GED required.
Minimum of 5 years experience in an office environment
Familiarity with office machines
Must be highly competent with Word, Excel, and Publisher
Responsibilities
Oversee daily office operations, ensuring efficiency and organization.
Prepare the bulletin weekly, the newsletter monthly, and annual publications such as extra worship services, the annual report, etc.
The office manager will prepare documents for the monthly session meeting.
Manage church calendar
Handle clerical tasks, including filing and maintaining records.
Communicate effectively with staff, members, and vendors, demonstrating excellent phone etiquette.
Assist in event planning and coordination.
Must be able to hold confidential information, such as the amount of individual donations.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $19.00 – $21.00 per hour
