Research Administration Coordinator Jobs in Ithaca, NY at Cornell University

Research Administration Coordinator

Lab of Atomic and Solid State Physics (LASSP)

Who We Are

Research and Innovation (RI), led by the Vice President for Research and Innovation (VPRI), enables, and advances the University’s research priorities as well as research activities of Cornell colleges, schools, and research centers, institutes, and laboratories.

LASSP operates as part of Cornell’s Research and Innovation and works in partnership with the Department of Physics in the College of Arts and Sciences. While the Department of Physics provides primary support for academic matters, LASSP handles all of the fundamental support for research and human resources for faculty and students affiliated with Lab of Atomic and Solid State Physics.

Our diverse group of faculty, graduate students, researchers, and staff is comprised of:

30 faculty (who have teaching appointments in the Department of Physics, with some additionally affiliated with the fields of Applied and Engineering Physics, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, and Biophysics),

19 administrative and technical staff,

55-65 graduate student researchers, and

50+ other academic research professionals.

What You Will Do

While position responsibilities vary, every member of our community is expected to foster a culture of belonging and a psychologically healthy work environment by communicating across differences; being cooperative, collaborative, open, and welcoming; showing respect, compassion, and empathy; engaging and supporting others regardless of background or perspective; speaking up when others are being excluded or treated inappropriately; and supporting work/life integration of oneself and others.

The Laboratory of Atomic and Solid State Physics is under the umbrella of the Research Division and is one of two research arms of the Physics Department. LASSP has 30+ faculty, 18 administrative & technical staff, 50-60 graduate students, and 50+ other academic professionals (research associates, postdocs, visitors). LASSP is also the administrative home of the Kavli Institute at Cornell for Nanoscale Science (KIC) and the Cornell NEXT Nano Initiative, which are both interdisciplinary, cross-university, and outward-facing programs.

The Pre-/Post-award Specialist reports directly to the Associate Director, and their primary responsibilities include:

Pre-award grant proposal specialist support

Travel planning and financial transaction support

Post-award grant reporting support

High-level project support for LASSP Director, Associate Director, and Assistant Director

The person in this role is an integral part of the LASSP administration team, and serves as a representative to faculty, other staff, and students. The Research Administration Coordinator provides the highest level of service to faculty in preparing grant proposals for timely submission. Because this role is integral to LASSP’s research mission, this position requires an unwavering commitment to service and excellence in a deadline-driven environment, and the ability to accommodate ongoing changes to internal and external policies and regulations. Additionally, this person is the “travel team” lead, a member of the “onboarding” workgroup, and serves on other committees as appropriate. This person must be able to interact with individuals at all levels and across many departments, and to remain flexible, resourceful, and responsive in a dynamic environment.
