POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the Public Works Operations Manager performs a variety of clerical and administrative duties for the operations for Public Works Department. Clerical duties may be assigned in accordance with the office procedures of individual establishments and may include a combination of answering telephones, typing or word processing, report preparation, invoice processing, mail pick up, office machine operation, and filing.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Serves as the first point of contact for customers and handles routine inquiries.
Answers telephone, routes calls, processes messages, schedules appointments, directs citizens to proper divisions, takes citizen requests, gives out general information, and sorts and distributes office correspondence.
Assists the Office Manager with their assigned duties; provides back-up support as needed.
Provides administrative support to the Public Works Operations Manager and Deputy Public Works Director and their assigned divisions.
Prepares correspondence, memos and related communications.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education – High school diploma or G.E.D.
Experience – Two years’ clerical experience.
Licenses and Certifications – Valid Utah Driver License.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of –
Correct English usage, spelling, and vocabulary
Personal computer applications, data entry, and word processing software
Skilled with –
MS Office
Phone procedures and etiquette
Customer service: greeting customers, guests and visitors, answering customer or public inquiries, obtaining information from individuals, residents, and responding with a high degree of accuracy, with a high level of courtesy, and a strong public service orientation
Accessing and retrieving spreadsheet data
Ability to –
Type letters and correspondence
Take messages
Promote a positive attitude among department personnel and other contacts
Display a high level of customer service and good public relations
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Typical office setting with comfortable climate controls. Tasks require a variety of physical activities such as walking, standing, stooping, bending, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing and seeing. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity required for most essential functions. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability and discriminating thinking and creative problem solving. Occasionally lifts or otherwise moves objects weighing up to 10 pounds. May drive a motor vehicle.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Monday to Friday 28-29 hours per week (Schedule TBD at time of interview)
Salary range: $17.85-$28.51 per hour (Starting wage is dependent on experience.)
